We’re celebrating Silent Movie Day with esteemed Accompanist Brett Miller, who will join us to provide a live original score to Harold Lloyd’s last silent feature, SPEEDY (1928).

We will also be joined by Bruce Goldstein, founder of Rialto Pictures and the Film Forum's founding Repertory Artistic Director, who will introduce the film and present a short film about the making of the movie on the streets of New York following the film.

A legend of slapstick comedy, Harold Lloyd reprises his role as the “Glasses Character” in this love letter to New York. The scatterbrained Lloyd darts around the city that never sleeps, attempting to save its last horse-drawn streetcar while impressing his sweetheart in the process. Featuring hair-raising stunts, a memorable trip to Coney Island, and a cameo from the iconic Babe Ruth. This film would be Lloyd’s final silent feature before talkies took over.

About Brett Miller: Brett Miller is an organist, pianist, orchestrator, and conductor specializing in silent film accompaniment. His most recent appointment is as Music Director of the Empire Film and Media Ensemble, a nonprofit based in Rochester, NY that advocates for the education, performance, and production of film music. About Bruce Goldstein: Bruce Goldstein is the founder of the classic film distributor Rialto Pictures and Founding Repertory Artistic Director of New York’s Film Forum, the nation’s flagship cinema for classic film restorations. He’s been called “the dean of repertory film programmers.” Goldstein founded Rialto in 1997, and the company has been a leader in restoring classic art films including Jules Dassin’s RIFIFI (1955), Jean Renoir’s GRAND ILLUSION (1937), Carol Reed’s THE THIRD MAN (1949), and the original Japanese GODZILLA (1954). His mark on the New York film scene has given him the distinction of being named “One of 101 Essential New Yorkers,” and he has used his knowledge of the city to create the acclaimed “New York Trilogy” of documentary short films: Uncovering The Naked City, In the Footsteps of Speedy, and Pelham One Two Three: NYC Underground.
